When you're student teaching in an economics classroom and the Powerball is sitting at $1.3 billion, you're obviously going to talk about it.
Although the Powerball has been drawn and three winners have been chosen, I thought it would still be fun to post about what I might do with the winnings if I had won (spoiler alert, I didn't even buy a ticket because Alabama doesn't have the lottery and I didn't want to drive to GA).
What Would I Do If I Won the Powerball?
1) Pay off all of mine and Chris' debts: vehicles, farm debt, equipment, etc.
The first thing I would do would be to cancel out any of our debts...it would be so sweet to be debt free before the age of thirty!
2) Buy land to expand our farm
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Once again, it would be pretty sweet to pay for land outright to continue to expand our farm.
3) Pay off some of both of our parents debts
Our parents have given us both so much, they're part of the reason we're doing so well in our twenties. Being able to give back to them would be an amazing feeling.
4) Go Shopping!
I would love to buy myself an SUV or truck (not a new one, but one that I've been wanting for a while), the Louis Vuitton bag I've been lusting after, and maybe pick up a thing or two from Lilly.
5) Gifts to my Family
My sisters would each get some extravagant gift of their choosing, I'd probably spoil my brothers-in-law with a little something as well.
My niece and nephew would probably get a fun trip somewhere!
6) House of Our Dreams
Chris and I would love to be able to build the house of our dreams on a piece of our farmland (and the barn of my dreams as well!) We would build the home we've been dreaming of, which is pretty modest-not a McMansion, and put anything left in savings.
The Powerball probably wouldn't pay for all of these scenarios, but it sure is fun to dream about!
If we won, I don't think either of us would stop working, but we would try to live semi-normally.
I would love to go to our nearest kill-shelter and get every animal out as their time came up and save them, re-homing neglected animals is awesome!
Did you play the Powerball? If you had won, whether you played or not, what would you do with the winnings? Let me know down below!
Until next time. . .
xoxo,
This made me smile because we had these same conversations in our home. We decided we'd remodel our kitchen and bathrooms, but we would stay in our home and we'd certainly do a lot more traveling!!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this post :) I had a similar conversation with my little sister and we both were just stumped with what to do with that much money haha
ReplyDeleteWe had that same discussion in my English classroom. It made a great argumentative writing prompt! And even though NV doesn't do powerball...We made the trip to CA to get a ticket!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I am also doing a post about this, this week. Great minds think alike. We have very similar things on how we would spend our money. I would love to adopt all the animals I could at a kill shelter.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cool post!! I think that you have wonderful aspirations for what you would do if you won! Also- I had no idea Alabama didn't have the lottery?! I thought most states did!!

What a life we'd live if we had a million $$$!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely splurge on my dream house and maybe even get a vacation house somewhere cool as well (haha why not, right?). I think it's so cool to dream about what I would get!

If I had won the Powerball: (a) buy the house we're currently renting; (b) pay off the truck; (c) set up fully funded retirement accounts for me and the Hubs; (d) invest some in my business; (e) pay off my bro's car; (f) travel.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend and I had a similar discussion as to what we would do if we won!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post! When I was a kid my mom and I would have the longest conversations about what we would do if we ever won the lottery. It was so fun to dream and predict.
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! I would do many of these as well- especially starting by paying off my own debt as well as that of my loved ones. That would be such an incredible feeling!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! I love that you have a farm, sounds beautiful :) :)

It would be so wonderful to not have any debts to our name and I would probably do similar things if I ever won the lottery. I especially like the idea of helping your parents, as they do so much for their children and it would be nice to pay them back.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post :)
ReplyDeleteI'd pay off my debts and donate some and build a beautiful home for my fiance and I.
xoxo, Jenny
Great post! I would definitely pay off my parents debt too! I would also buy a house and pursue full time blogging!
ReplyDeleteHashtagFabLife
My husband and I would pay off our debts, buy one car for each of us, and buy a house. Then save for our children's college funds!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun post because I think we've all had this conversation with at least one person in our lives this past few weeks. My dad and I were talking and he said he would disappear if he won, not come forward for a while until he had his team of lawyers and accountants in place, then he'd buy property in Montana on a lake, and send the lawyers to deliver us a notice that each month we'd be getting a hefty income from him for the rest of our lives. He has this theory that if you come forward with that kind of winnings, you will get hurt by people wanting your money, so he plans to disappear! hahahahahaha. He's very thorough in his plans.
ReplyDelete1.3 would definitely pay for all of those options (even after taxes). I never play the lotto, but I have to admit we played the last two weeks! Paying off my debts, and helping my family would be the very first thing I would do too! Ah, it's good to dream but then it makes me sad since it's not reality :(.
ReplyDeleteI like to joke and say that I would be such a good rich person. Like you, the first thing I would do is pay off my debt. It would feel so great to have all of my student loans, credit cards and my car paid off! I think it would be so awesome to own land and build your own house on it! Honestly, if I acquired that amount of money, I would probably spend most of it on travel. I just want to see the world. A girl can dream, right?!
ReplyDeleteJ and I had the exact plans! I would love to have a crazy amount of money to save all the dogs at our local shelters!
ReplyDeleteI played the lottery because all of my co-workers went in on tickets... I did not want to be the only person in the office if they won! Haha.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you in wanting to save all of the animals! Haha

I played. Sadly I lost. I would pay off all of mine and my boyfriends debt. I would buy a new car (I've had mine since I was 16, so that is a little over 10 years), I would buy a house, help my mom and sister with their debt some, and travel to all the Disneylands. Oh and quit my job and really put my effort into blogging full time.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, the Powerball was so fun to watch, right? And dream about what we'd all do with the jackpot!

Love this post! We had a similar discussion at my house about what we would do. I said the same thing about not giving up working. I would still want to maintain a somewhat normal life and use the winnings to spoil my family and friends.

Such a nice thought! And that's so smart to pay off all debts and buy a house, I would definitely do the same!

We did play the Powerball, really only pay attention to it when it is big though. Your list sounds a lot like what mine would be :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! If I won the lottery, I probably wouldn't tell anyone and then most of it in savings. Then I would surprise people with random gifts when they weren't expecting it! Oh and then buy a horse... definitely would buy a horse ;)

I played and (unfortunately) did not win this time! How fun is it to think of all the things you could do if you won though - I think I'd do the same, first thing would be all of my debts! (Then a new car, then a really nice vacation and probably a Prada bag!)

I played too! I think everyone played the Powerball. I think you have some good ideas for what you would have put it towards!

Love this post! I would definitely pay off my house (even though it's not even done being built), pay off my mom's house and use the rest for charities.

Such a fun post to do. I never sat to think what I'd do if I won the Powerball. I think I'd use some for college, help my family, save some, then go shopping. :)
